What is TACoS?
TACoS is ad spend as a percentage of all sales, paid and organic. A falling TACoS while sales grow means advertising is lifting organic demand rather than just buying it.
Worked example
If ad spend is $5,000 and total sales is $80,000, then TACoS = 6.25%.
TACoS = (Ad spend ÷ Total sales) × 100

Tactical application guide
TACoS links ad spend and total sales in a fixed ratio, so any two pin down the third. Planning backwards is where it earns its keep: enter the ad spend you have and the TACoS you are targeting, and the solver tells you the total sales you must secure. Or lock total sales and TACoS from a benchmark to see the ad spend that plan implies before you commit.
